Award-winning musician Jah Prayzah was reportedly threatened by youth group Children of War Veterans for allegedly composing songs to cause political tension, reported Daily News on 12 September 2017.
Munyaradzi Shoko, the leader of the youth group which is allegedly tied to Generation 40, a faction of Zimbabwe’s ruling party Zimbabwe African National Union- Patriotic Front (Zanu PF), accused the musician of provoking and insulting party leadership with his songs. Shoko also alleged that the intention of the singer’s latest album, “Kutonga Kwaro”, was to promote party factionalism and warned the singer about the danger of “digging his own grave”.
Despite the threats, the musician has not changed his plans to release his album on 13 October 2017.
“I thank that guy, or whoever they are, for marketing my album. I received many calls; of course, friends and relatives panicked, but I didn’t. I knew that people were paying attention to the album, to what we are doing and because my conscience is clear, I continue to do what I do best, which is sing,” Prayzah told Sunday Mail Society on 8 October 2017.
