United Kingdom: Flag paintings removed from exhibition by council

The Bangladeshi artist Saif Osmani living in the UK has criticised the Tower Hamlet council after he was told some of his work was deemed “too controversial for public display”.

Mr Osmani said he was told that due to the political situation in Bangladesh his series of paintings combining the Pakistani and Bangladeshi flags, might anger “hardliners” and would not be shown. “I can’t see why these events happening thousands of miles away have started dictating this exhibition here in the UK” the artist said.Tower Hamlets Council declined to say who its arts officer meant by “hardliners”.
