Nine wedding singers were detained and taken to court on 7 January 2019 for allegedly praising terror organisations during their performances in the Turkish town of Viranşehir, reported local news site Ajans Urfa.
Police allegedly seized a gun, computers and mobile phones during targeted police raids on the suspects’ homes.
After being interrogated, all nine singers were referred to a court of Urfa.
Seven of the nine were then conditionally released. The other two— Mehmet Yol and Alican Temel—were arrested for “making propaganda for an organisation”.
They are alleged to have praised the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
