28 April 2021: During a court hearing, the İstanbul 30th Heavy Penal Court merged the case of seven individuals, including five artists charged with an “attempt to overthrow the government”, to the main Gezi trial, reported Evrensel.

According to Bianet, writer Can Dündar, actor Memet Ali Alabora, actress Pınar Alabora, producer Çiğdem Mater and director Mine Özerden are charged with “attempt to overthrow the government” in relation to the Gezi Park protests. The Gezi Park protests began in May 2013 to oppose the Istanbul’s Gezi Park demolition.

The five artists are abroad, which was the reasoning for their court case to be separated from the main trial.

The next hearing on the Gezi Park main case is scheduled for 21 May.
