Sweden: Nordic meeting on shelter cities for persecuted artists

11 April 2013

On 18 April 2013, a meeting hosted by the Kulturhuset in Stockholm aims at developing long-term partnerships between the Nordic Arts Councils and the Nordic Institutes in Greenland, Faroe Islands and Åland, in order to collectively address issues related to freedom of expression and supporting artists living in exile in the region.

Several organisations within and outside Europe working towards the protection and promotion of dissident artists and human rights defenders — including freeDimensional, ICORN, PEN International, Freemuse and Amnesty International — will contribute to the meeting with their experience and knowledge in support of the Nordic Arts Councils developing shelter city programs and working towards a greater understanding of the global threats to free expression.
