Joseph Natale Subuni, the minister of information and communications of the newly created Gbudwe State in South Sudan, banned the playing of foreign music over local Yambio FM radio while giving a public commemoration speech, reported Paris-based news site Sudan Tribune on 16 May 2016.

“With effect from now, no more playing foreign music over Yambio FM. It is over,” Subuni said. “And I will pay a close monitor on this.”

Subuni enacted the ban after local artists complained to the minister that it was difficult for them to promote their music as radio stations focus on foreign music.
