27 May 2021: Lebanese composer Samir Sfeir was released after being detained by the Saudi Arabia authorities since April 2021 for his political opinions, reported SKeyes Media.

Sfeir was arrested in April 2021 after arriving in Saudi Arabia invited by a Saudi official. His whereabouts were unknown until 28 April, when Lebanon’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants asked Saudi authorities about the artist. Saudi Arabia’s authorities then announced that Sfeir was arrested and was held in Dalhoun prison for his “political opinions”.

Upon returning to Beirut, Sfeir said he was held in solitary confinement for 50 days due to his political opinions and tweets.

According to Naharnet, the Saudi authorities also followed up on Sfeir’s comments during the comic show in 2013.
