A video by the British electronic band Years and Years for its single ‘Desire’ has been censored in Russia by blurring out a scene wherein the lead singer kisses another man, reported British magazine Digital Spy on 11 June 2016.

Russia has been making headlines over its laws on homosexuality, including a law proposed in October 2015 that would fine people for “the public expression of non-traditional sexual relations, manifested in a public demonstration of personal perverted sexual preferences in public places”, as well as the anti-gay “propanganda” law passed in 2013 that makes it illegal to promote “propaganda for nontraditional sexual relationships” to minors, reported Human Rights Watch.

According to the organisation, 80 countries currently criminalise same-sex relations or the discussion of LGBT rights, and consist of punishments including prison sentences, flogging, and death.
