Iran: Two writers arrested

18 December 2015

Iran’s Intelligence Ministry forces allegedly arrested two Iranian writers, Rouzbeh Gilasian and Elaheh Soroushnia, on 14 December 2015.

The two writers were arrested in Gorgan in northern Iran and transferred to an unknown location, according to the organisation Journalism Is Not A Crime, citing Human Rights Activists News Agency, HRANA.

The reason for the arrests and the charges against them are not known.

An anonymous source close to the writers told HRANA: “They were probably arrested because of their opinions and writings. They have not yet contacted their families. We hope they will soon be released.”

Rouzbeh Gilasian is the author of the book ‘Philosophy on Street’ and has written for various Iranian media.
