Two young Haitian dancers, Nancy Dorléan (25) and Sébastien Jean (20) went missing after the end of a rehearsal of a show, on the 23 June in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Three days later, their bodies were found burned in the district of Tabarre. To this date, the investigations have resulted in no arrests, reported the Vant Bèf Info.

According to the Vant Bèf Info, The National Association of Haitian Artists (ANARH) calls for the opening of the investigation. In their press note, they stated that “these young people were kidnapped, killed, and burned by unidentified individuals, without faith or law. (…) The ANARH feels indignant at this tragic and premature departure of these young talents, confirmed dancers, full of future who had a lot to offer to Haitian art”.

In 2019, Freemuse registered 711 acts of violations of artistic freedom and the killing of 9 artists. You can read more about the attacks on freedom of artistic expression at a global scale in Freemuse´s State of Artistic Freedom 2020 report.
