|In Berlin, a concert with the Kurdish artists Hozan Aydın and Şerîbana Kurdî, scheduled to take place on 19 December 2010, was prohibited in court because it was found to be celebrating the foundation of the banned militant Kurdish organisation PKK.
The artists, the organiser Medya Deniz, as well as Kurdish associations in Berlin, criticised the ban as an arbitrary act, and they fiercely condemned the German authorities, describing the ban as ‘scandalous’.
Parmaksiz Ismail, chairman of Berlin’s People’s Council called it a deliberate attempt to criminalize the Kurdish population.
For some time now, Kurdish concerts in Berlin have been banned by the Berlin police, reported Ali Güler for ANF News Agency, mentioning that on 28 November 2010 a ‘Kurdish Culture Night’ was prevented by prohibition. Here too, the Berlin police claimed that the founding of the PKK would be celebrated.
All legal efforts to abolish the ban failed.
