Musician and social activist Junior Jein (real name Harold Angulo Vencé) was shot and killed on 13 June 2021 by two individuals while entering “Otro nivel” club in Cali to perform, reported El Comercio.
Two suspects have been arrested the same night, but they refused to explain the motivation behind the attack. According to Infobae, the hypothesis of extortion has been excluded.
The investigation is still ongoing, and the local authorities offer a reward of up to 200 million pesos (around 45,000 euros) for relevant information which can help clarify the crime.
El Comercio reports that the artist was recognised as “El Señor Del Pacífico”, as he was considered a pioneer and pillar of the Colombian urban movement.
The killing of Junior Jein comes after the recent death of street artist Nicolás Guerrero, killed on 2 May 2021 in Cali during a demonstration against the tax reform proposed by the Colombian government. Musician Rafael Domicó Carupia and rapper Julián Sneider Múñoz Silva were also killed in Colombia this year.
