23 April 2021: Street musicians Elizaveta Pachova and Aleksey Shuravlevich were sentenced to 11 and 25 days of administrative arrest, while street musician Yulia Shabanova was fined on 6 May 2021 for “unauthorized picketing” while performing in Minsk, reported Komsomolskaya Pravda.

The three artists were arrested on 22 April in the underground passage in Minsk and accused of “unauthorized picketing” because of performing the song Разбуры турмы муры / Destroy The Prison Walls.

Pachova and Shuravlevich were sentenced to administrative arrest a day later, while Shabanova was released on the day of the arrest, as she is a parent of minors, and fined 1450 Belarussian Rubles (approximately 475 EUR).

According to Nasha Niva, Yulia Shabanova said that the musicians have permission to perform in the passage and were surprised by the detention. They were not aware that performing the song is “forbidden”.

According to Freemuse’s State of Artistic Freedom 2021 report, all violations of artistic freedom Freemuse documented in 2020 in Belarus were committed by President Alexander Lukashenko’s regime
