Freemuse Award

Beginning in 2008, the Freemuse Award is given to an individual or an organisation that has worked for musical freedom of expression in a remarkable way, or in a lasting manner.

The Freemuse Award was first sponsored by BAIK — the Björn Afzelius International Culture Foundation, which was initiated in memory of Swedish rock singer Björn Afzelius, who passed away in 1999. Afzelius was a strong spokesman fro oppressed people and raised his voice and used his musical talent against injustice and inequality. BAIK sponsored the award from 2008 – 2013.

World-renowned Swedish glass designer Göran Wärff has created the Freemuse Award statuette.
