Freemuse session at Copenhagen Pride 2020: LGBTI art, expression and human rights, 20 August 2020

18 August 2020

Freemuse participated in Copenhagen Pride 2020 with the session “LGBTI art, expression and human rights”.

LGBTI artistic expressions are marginalised around the world. Freemuse’s session at Copenhagen Pride 2020 aimed to reclaim some of the physical space taken from LGBTI expression and artistry in an hour-long celebration of dedication to the state of artistic freedom for the LGBTI community.

The session focused on three main parts:

⦁ Taking stock of the state of artistic freedom with the launch of the summary and key statistics from Freemuse’s flagship report The Risk of Visibility: LGBTI Artists and Art.

⦁ A set from DJ Avtomat who has experienced a breach of artistic freedom for LGBTI alliance.

⦁ A panel discussion from Danish MEP Karen Melchior, author and LGBTI activist Monika Tichy, musician Kajetan Dionizy Łukomski and legal advisor to the UNSR Freedom of Opinion and Expression Sofia Jaramillo Otoya.

When: 20 August 2020 at 15:00 – 16:00

Where: Rådhuspladsen, Copenhagen
