8 December 2004

Ferhat Tunç’s hearing on the 2nd of December 2004 is postponed to 9th of March 2005, for the purpose of gathering additional documents.

Ferhat Tunç stated in his defense that he did not mean to insult the court and that he only meant to criticise. He said that he was upset that the charges were not dropped at the first hearing. His case is under way. Tunç is under the risk of getting sentenced between 1 year to 6 years of imprisonment.
The Turkish singer is to be tried due to article 159 of the former Turkish Penal Code because of using the phrase “deep judiciary” in an article he wrote to daily GÜNDEM.
