Egypt: Sufi concert cancelled

Inshad concert for Sheikh Yasin el Tohami in Al Hussein mosque area in Cairo was cancelled, allegedly for security reasons.

On 18 February 2015, security authorities decided to cancel an Inshad (religious singing with no musical instruments) concert by Sheikh Yasin el Tohami, the master of religious Monshedeen (song performers), which was scheduled to be held on the margin of the public folkloric celebrations of Hussein’s birthday.

Sufi religious groups had announced they would be holding this concert at the public arena of the famous Al Hussein Mosque in Cairo. The security authorities, though, stated that the concert had to be cancelled for security reasons.

It is worth mentioning that Mahmoud el Tohami, son of Sheikh Yasin el Tohami held, one day before this concert was canceled, had held another big concert where thousands of Sufi believers and leaders attended.
