Freemuse’s activities in 2012

Artsfex – a new global network advocating and defending artistic freedom of expression
October
Artsfex was formed after the World Conference on Artistic Freedom of Expression ‘All that is banned is desired’. The network is the first international civil society network actively concerned with the right of artists to freedom of expression as well as with issues relating to human rights and freedoms generally. Artsfex aims to promote, protect and defend artistic freedom of expression, as well as freedom of assembly, thought, and opinion in and across all art disciplines, globally.

The conference was helt at the Oslo Opera house and organised by Freemuse together with the Norwegian organisation Fritt Ord

The United Nations has granted a ‘Special consultative status’ to Freemuse
July
Consultative status for an organisation enables it to actively engage with ECOSOC´(the United Nations’ Economic and Social Council) and its subsidiary bodies, as well as with the United Nations Secretariat, programmes, funds and agencies in a number of ways. The status provides both privileges and obligations.
