At a seminar in Oslo, Norway, on 29 October 2014, the South African musician Hugh Masekela will discuss the importance of music in the democratisation process in South Africa in a conversation with Freemuse Director Ole Reitov.
Hugh Masekela has for years explored the role of music as an instrument for social change.
The seminar discussion will look at how music engages today. What importance has music, if at all, in the Arab Spring we have seen in North Africa and the Middle East? How do we see young artists place current issues on the agenda and use their influence to promote change? What is the significance of music as a catalyst today?
The seminar is held at the Nobel Peace Centre as part of the Oslo World Music Festival. The event is supported by Fritt Ord.
