Journalist and Freemuse vice president Daniel Brown will be speaking about censorship and the arts on 24 September 2014 at a roundtable at Festival d’Ile de France together with three censorship and free speech specialists:
• Pascal Ory, professor of contemporary history at the University Paris 1
• Jean-Yves Mollier, professor of contemporary history at the University Versailles / Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, and
• Michel Ducomte, lawyer and lecturer in public law at the IEP of Toulouse.
The roundtable discussion is chaired by Pierre Fournié, Curator of Heritage, head of the cultural and educational activities at the National Archives.
The panel will be looking into the consequences of censorship and how it affects an artist’s creativity. Why fear arts? Why censor arts?
The event will be video filmed and we hope to be able to link to the video documentation later on.
