India: American singer censored on tv

American singer censored on tv

Paris Hilton’s music video ‘Stars Are Blind’ has been banned because of “sexual connotations”.

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has issued an “A” (Adult) certification for the music video which is part of Hilton’s debut album, ‘Paris’. It was released in Mumbai on 22 August 2006. This means that it cannot be broadcast on any tv channel in India.

A censored version of the video, however, is available on the internet for a period of two to three weeks. EMI Virgin marketing manager Kaveri Khulla said to Times of India: “To the best of our knowledge, there are no rules yet regarding censorship on the Net, so we plan to use the online platform to generate buzz.” The build up of ‘curiosity’ because of the ban may in itself have a positive outcome for its promotions.
