Russia: Pussy Riot member’s new prison location held secret

Convicted Pussy Riot band member Nadezhda Tolokonnikova has not been heard from since she was transferred from one prison to another, her husband Petr Verzilov told international news media on 2 November 2013.

Petr Verzilov said his wife was moved from a Mordovia prison to a prison in Chelyabinsk on 24 or 25 October 2013.

“In accordance with regulations, authorities will inform her family about her transfer within 10 days of her arrival at a different penal colony,” the country’s Federal Penitentiary Service’s press office was quoted as saying by the Russian news agency Interfax – which would mean that 2 or 3 November was the official deadline for informing her family.

An online petition to be delivered to Russian president Vladimir Putin was started in Australia, saying: “Nadezhda Tolokonnikova is missing – her location must be identified and prison conditions improved for inmates.”
