Russia: Imprisoned Pussy Riot member moved to another prison

Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, one of the two imprisoned members of Pussy Riot, is reportedly to be moved from a prison camp in Mordovia republic, allegedly one of the toughest women’s prison in Russia, to another prison in Alatyr in the neighboring region of Chuvashia.

In two rounds, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova has been on hunger strike for better conditions in the prison for both herself and the other prisoners, and one of her demands was to be moved because she feared for her life. She wrote two open letters which created a huge debate in Russia about how prisoners are treated in Russian prison camps and prisons.

According to Russian prison system’s own website the prison in Alatyr is “one of the best in Chuvashia”.
