Group of rappers arrested
|The rap group Keur Gui from Kaolack was arrested for organising a “protest road show”. They were released four hours later.
“I think that, sadly, this kind of intimidation is pretty standard,” said Freemuse correspondent Rose Skelton, explaining that arrests in Senegal have become standard procedure to anyone who makes peaceful protests. The week before another group of protesters were arrested and accused of plotting a coup, but later released without charge.
“The government knows how powerful musicians are, and they want to send out a message before the elections. I think we will see more of this as we come up to elections,” said Rose Skelton in a comment to Freemuse.
