Freemuse:
Meeting the International Music Council

At a meeting in April in Brno, the Czech Republic, Freemuse held talks with the Advocacy Working Group and Board of the International Music Council (IMC) regarding common ground for projects that would suit both organisations and hopefully will open up for dialogue with countries/governments applying severe restrictions/censorship on music.

The IMC is a global network of expert organisations and individuals working in the field of music. Founded in 1949 by UNESCO, IMC is mandated to promote musical diversity and support cultural rights for everybody.

IMC has earlier quoted Freemuse in the report “The Protection and Promotion of Musical Diversity”, a detailed study of the situation of musical diversity in the world. The study addresses several issues including the relationship between the situation of musical diversity and the situation of human rights.
